Solaris to Linux Communication: Need Help

Hi,
I need to automate the transfer data(around 10 MB) from a Solaris Machine to a Linux Machine in every 60 seconds.

I want to know which method is more fast and if possible the specific disadvantages too.

1. Using FTP put Method
or
2. Using Sockets

The language platform is either C or C++ (It doesn't matter)
